Using OB Self Emp and it keeps wanting me to tweak my mileage tracking settings but in my settings “background app refresh” is greyed out. It is turned on though. I am in the 30 day trial period.

I'm here to help fix the mileage tracking on your device, userkenstroud1.

It's important to review the general location setting for your device to run the app in the background. But, you need to consider updating the QuickBooks Self-Employed app and your device to track mileage correctly.

Your device needs iOS 12.2 or later to work properly. Here's how to update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS

To update the app:

  1. On your device, open the App Store.
  2. Select the Today tab, then select your profile.
  3. In the Available updates section, look for the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  4. If you see the option, tap Update.

After updating your device and the app, restart your phone to refresh your phone.

Once done, you can set them up to track trips in the background. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to your iPhone or iPad's Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  3. Select Location. Then select Always. Note: Don't select While Using the App. This option doesn't let the app track your mileage consistently.
  4. Turn on the Motion & FitnessBackground App Refresh, and Cellular Data options.
  5. Close your settings.

Then, check if the app is tracking miles by following these steps:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  2. Go to the Mileage menu.
  3. Select Auto-tracking.
  4. Select Check mileage settings.

I've added these links for additional information:

Let me know if how this goes by commenting below. I'm always right here to make sure you're able to track mileage with no issues.

My QB & IOS are up to date.  I did that first.  When I click from within QB to track miles more accurately the next screen shows that “turn background refresh on”.  When I click on it it opens my settings an this option is “on” but greyed out.  So it shows on but I still get the error in QB.  But...it’s greyed out and nothing I do seems to change that.

I replied but I don’t think it sent.  The above did not work and I had already updated everything.  The option in my settings shows green “on” but the whole option is greyed out not letting me turn it on or off.
