When I tried to open a file from the training CD, the warning window came out that I do not have sufficient permissions to the specified folder...What should I do?

 I followed the help instruction, but I don't know which version of QuickBooks that I should add and I can not find the security tab.

Copy the file off the CD into a local folder such as your Documents folder.  Then open it from there.

Let's get this sorted out.

There are several possible causes why you're getting that message when opening a company file. It could be that:

  • The company file .qbw is located in a protected location such as the root of the C drive or Program Files on a Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 machine.
  • The file may be in a restricted location unlike the QuickBooks company file default location: C:Users/Public/PublicDocuments/Intuit/QuickBooks/Company Files
  • The access to the folder where company files are stored is not set up properly.
  • The folder where the file(s) are stored in may be corrupted.
