E-payments deducted from wrong bank after changing account in QuickBooks Desktop and EFTPS website

Problem

Your e-payments are deducted from the wrong bank account after you changed the account both in QuickBooks Desktop and on the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) website.

Assumptions

You have an active, up-to-date version of QuickBooks Desktop and your new EFTPS personal identification number (PIN).

The IRS links a personal identification number (PIN) to each bank account. This allows multiple accounts to be used for e-payments. When you change your bank account on the EFTPS website, the IRS must generate a new PIN. Using the wrong PIN causes the funds to be debited from the wrong bank account. When you use E-Pay for your liabilities, you need to enter the PIN associated with the bank account from which you want the funds debited.

 

To pay your payroll tax liabilities with e-pay:

  1. Choose Employees > Payroll Center > Pay Liabilities tab.
  2. In the Pay Taxes & Other Liabilities section, select the liability you want to e-pay. Click the View/Pay button.
  3. Review the liability check for accuracy and click the E-pay button.
  4. Enter in any required login credentials, including the PIN associated with the new bank account, and click Submit.
