Hi aj_billing,

The progress invoice templates have the same format when printed and sent. Before sending the invoice, you'll have to Customise it to the correct template.

We can verify that by creating a Quote and copy it to an invoice. Here's how:

  1. Create a Quote and then Save
  2. Click the Create Invoice and choose How much you want to invoice.
  3. Then, Create Invoice
  4. An Invoice window will open.
  5. Choose the template under the Customise option and then Save and send.

I'm here to help you if you have other questions about your sales transactions.

Hi Catherine_B

Thanks for the reply.  I have tried this. I have even tried a few different invoice templates, including the standard just in case the templates I have customised had a glitch - using customise, save then Print or Preview - they are all in the same format.

This is only happening with the progress invoicing, not when I convert a quote into an invoice for the whole amount.

Any suggestions - otherwise I may just delete and start again!!

@aj_billing @Catherine_B Just wanted to follow up on this question to see it there was any answer. Did you manage to find out why the progress invoice from quotes is not applying custom style? Even if you select customise and template style it still doesn't apply it. Obviously something to do with quote generated progress/partial invoices. Full invoices are fine. I am having this same issue and it is really annoying, my clients have commented on the different styles already, saying its confusing. This has been marked as solved but still seems to be a problem. I hope someone can reply with a solution! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for joining the thread, mattcol18,

Let's get this sorted out so you'd able to convert a quote to progress invoices successfully. To start, kindly make sure to follow the steps below for the complete setup:

  1. Turn on Progress Invoicing.
  2. Create a Progress Invoice template.
  3. Create a Quote.
  4. Create progress invoices from the Quote.
  5. Keep track of your Progress Invoices.

For the detailed steps about this process, you can read these articles:

As always, you can contact our QuickBooks Support team if you need assistance with the steps. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment and help you navigate using one of their tools like screen sharing. To reach them, here’s how:

  1. Click this link https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_AU/contact.
  2. Choose the QuickBooks Product.
  3. On the Contact Us page, select a topic.
  4. Click on Get Phone Number button to see the support number.

Keep me posted on how things go, mattcol18. You can always count on me about creating progress invoices.

Hi @mattcol18 Not sure if they have put into the programming recently but as of 4 April 2019 Quickbooks online does not support imported custom progress invoices. I managed to get hold of a super helpful person at Quickbooks Care Support who contacted the product team and advised: I've received word from our product team and unfortunately the progress invoices in QuickBooks Online are not currently designed to work with imported custom documents. Apologies, I know this is frustrating news but feedback has definitely been passed on about this seeming limitation and hopes are that it's addressed in a future release. For now it's recommended that the Airy classic design is used for all progress invoices. I guess if enough people put in suggestions/feedback they will enable imported custom progress invoices for future releases - instead of something Pacman has chewed its way through....!
