Set up cash advance repayment deduction

Learn how to set up a cash advance repayment deduction for your employees.

We recommend that you consult with your accountant or tax adviser before setting up a cash advance repayment deduction.

Set up a cash advance repayment deduction

Intuit Online Payroll Enhanced

  1. Go to Setup, then click Deductions/Contributions.
  2. Select Add new deduction/contribution.
  3. From the Category dropdown, select Other deductions.
  4. From the Type dropdown, select Cash Advance Repayment.
  5. Enter a description, then click OK.

Intuit Online Full Service Payroll

Contact customer care at 866-640-9987. Select Option 2 to get a cash advance repayment deduction setup.

QuickBooks Online Payroll

  1. Select the gear icon at the top, then go to Payroll Settings.
  2. Click Deductions/Contributions.
  3. Click Add new deduction/contribution.
  4. From the Category dropdown, select Other deductions.
  5. From the Type dropdown select Cash Advance Repayment.
  6. Enter a description, then click OK.

Assign cash advance repayment deduction to an employee

After set up, perform the following to assign the cash advance repayment deduction to your employees.

Intuit Online Payroll Enhanced

  1. Go to Employees, then select the employee's name.
  2. Click Edit in the Deductions & Contributions section.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow and select the cash advance deduction you created above.
  4. Select either $ Amount or % of Gross Pay.
  5. Enter the amount or percentage.
  6. Enter the annual maximum amount (optional).
  7. Click Save, then OK.

Intuit Full Service Payroll

  1. Go to Employees, then select the employee's name.
  2. Click Edit in the Deductions & Contributions section.
  3. Select Add new deduction or contribution.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow and select the cash advance deduction listed.
  5. Click the Employee deduction drop down.
  6. Select either Fixed amount per paycheck or % of Gross pay.
  7. Enter the amount.
  8. Click Save, then Done.

QuickBooks Online Payroll Enhanced

  1. From the left menu, go to Workers > Employees.
  2. Click the employee's name.
  3. Click edit (pencil) icon in the Pay section.
  4. Click Add a new deduction and select the cash advance deduction you created above.
  5. Select either $ Amount or % of Gross Pay.
  6. Enter the amount or percentage.
  7. Enter the annual maximum amount (optional).
  8. Select OK, then Done.

QuickBooks Online Payroll Full Service, QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium, or QuickBooks Online Payroll Elite

  1. From the left menu, go to Workers > Employees.
  2. Click the employee's name, then select Edit employee.
  3. Under Does this employee have any deductions?, you can:
    • select a deduction from the dropdown.
    • edit a deduction by clicking the pencil icon.
    • Select Add a new deduction to add a new one.
  4. Select New deduction/contribution from the Deduction/contribution drop-down to add a new deduction.
  5. Select Other deductions from the Deduction/contribution type drop-down.
  6. Choose Cash Advance Repayment.
  7. Enter description and amount.
  8. Click OK, then select Done.
