Add item to invoice by its description

You can actually add a description on the item, RCD Distributors.

When you add an item in QuickBooks Desktop, there's a box for description. You can add your identifier from there, and when you create an invoice, it will show beside the item name. Here's an example:

Here's how you can edit the item to add the description:

1. Click Customers on the menu.
2. Select Item List.
3. Locate the item, and click the Item drop-down. Then, select Edit Item.

It should look like this:

Thanks for the reply. The problem that we are having is looking for the items to add them to the invoice. Because we have so many items it is difficult to remember the number of each one. We want to know if there is a way of adding the product by the description, instead of the number. For example if I want to add a camera I would like to search camera to add it to the invoice instead of remembering the item number. Is it possible?

When adding an item in QuickBooks Desktop, we're not able to use the item description. We can only use the item name.
