Application Certificate is requesting access

Hello there everyone.

Thanks for coming in today. Let me share some information about the Application Certificate in QuickBooks.

The certificate is a way of requesting QuickBooks to allow the Corrigo integration module to modify data in your QuickBooks company file.

If you wish to allow the request, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Desktop - Application Certificate window.
  2. Click Yes, whenever this QuickBooks Desktop company file is open.
  3. Click Continue.

To know more about Intuit Field Service Management Intuit Field Service Management setup and support.

That looks like the certificate from Intuit Field Service Manager. I don't know if you use that, but that is what it is from.

Application Certificate is requesting access

I am trying to schedule QB to email reports automatically and get this Application Certificate message. The bottom message says "This application requires access to personal data such as Social Security Numbers and customer credit card information". What possible reason could explain why it needs access to such sensitive data? That data has nothing to do with the reports I am requesting. A Trial Balance report, for instance, does not need Social Security numbers or customer credit card info.

I would like to schedule automatically emailed reports, but not if it requires access to precious data.

Hi there, @alhilpert,

Allow me to step in and share some information with you about the Application Certificate message.

It's possible the option "Allow this application to access Social Security Numbers, customer credit card information" wasn't selected during the initial setup. That's why it's showing up again while scheduling QuickBooks to email reports automatically.

Once you allow access to personal data in your company file with caution. Personal data can include:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Any field related to an employee's salary
  • Anything related to credit card or bank account numbers.

You need to select this option for the integration to be able to talk to QuickBooks. This is a requirement from the system to allow other software application integrate to it, without this the data transfer is not possible.

Please check out this article: Set up and modify Scheduled Reports for your guidance. This link provides detailed steps and requirements for scheduled reports.

Keep me posted if there's anything else you need and I'll get back to you.

You absolutely missed the point of the question. Why does the Application Certificate need access to very sensitive personal data such as Social Security numbers and customer Credit Card numbers?

Simply saying the Certificate needs access to use the emailed, scheduled reporting feature is not answering the question. That much is already said on the Application Certificate. Please tell me why the Certificate actually "needs" access to that information, because I don't believe it "needs" access to any sensitive data. The reports have absolutely nothing to do with SSNs or CC info.

Furthermore, what will the Application Certificate DO with SSNs and customer CC info? If it won't "do" anything with it, what's the point in gaining access to it? And unless you are the IRS or our credit card processor, you do not have any business "doing" anything with SSNs or customer CC info.

Thanks for getting back, @alhilpert.

I've made some changes on my previous post. Please check it for more details.

To add up, working on your reports requires QuickBooks to access sensitive data. This is also part of the certification and that's why you need to mark the option.

You can click the Tell me more link to check why we have that option. Please refer to the screenshot in this thread.

Let me know if there's anything else you need. I'm always around to help you out.
