audit trail log and getting access from ex client

I was hired to clean up 9 months of accounting records in 2018 (It was September which is why there was only 9 months) and restructure the P&L and B/S so that client's tax attorney could submit the financial reports to the IRS.  Client was also not able to reconcile past July and thus asked me to fix that as well.  I was able to trace the reconciliation error back to February and corrected it.  I then went to work on reviewing nine months of transactions (not a lot of transactions per month...around 100 per month on average) and about 80% needed to be reclassed; he was mingling his personal with business and splitting his home office expenses 50/50 instead of posting in whole and taking the percentage at tax time.  I fixed all of this.  Then, I restructured his P&L so that his home office (expenses that would be split) were in one section and 100% business were in another section of the P&l so that he could have a better understanding of how his business was doing.  I billed 10 hours for the review and re classing of 9 months and the restructuring of the P&L as well as a comprehensive email outlining how to move forward (as he wanted to continue to do his own bookkeeping, just needed me to fix it and get him moving in the right direction).  I did not bill him for emails, telephone calls or the initial meeting.  I sent the Financials directly to his tax attorney.  I also billed him at the rate I give the attorneys that I work through rather than the regular rate because he was struggling and seemed like a nice guy (stupid me).  Well, he now refuses to pay me and he say it is because he questions the veracity of my billing; that it is unlikely I spent 10 hours on his books.  He has also removed my access to the books.   I am going to take him to court, but it would be great if I could get the audit trail report that shows the time I was logged in and all the corrections I made.  Is there anyway to get this report after the client has removed your access?

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Community about this, Kelly61.

I appreciate you providing me detailed information since it gives me a clearer picture of what happened. I can point you in the right direction, so you’re able to pull up the Audit Log Report.

The procedure requires gathering of sensitive data. As the Community is a public platform, we’re unable to verify account information for security reasons.

Since you no longer have access to your client’s account, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team for help in running the report.

Please let me know how the call goes. I want to make sure you're taken care of. Have a good one.

I would be surprised if they give out this information without a court order

Re: audit trail log and getting access from ex client

You are correct.  I called yesterday and was told that, while they can retrieve those logs, I will have to get a court order first.  Although a bit of a hassle because it means I may have to go to court twice to deal with this issue, I have comfort in knowing that I can ask the judge for the court order with confidence of knowing that I will then be able to get this information.  The support team was super understanding and the gal sent me a link to their legal team to have ready for when I do get that court order.
