Automatic Backup

Hello. I am running QB Premier on an 8.1 laptop. When I go to set automatic backups, I am prompted for my Windows password. I do not have one. I never set one up nor do I want to. How can I bypass that? Thank you.

Let's make sure you can set your QuickBooks for automatic backup without using your Windows password, Mattes.

 

The User Account Control window (where you enter your Windows password) will only appear if the program doesn't have enough access rights of your system. 

 

It's also possible that the location to save the backup files needs Administrative access. Thus, asking you to enter the Windows password when setting QuickBooks for automatic backup.

 

You can bypass the Windows password in different ways:

  • Change the folder location when setting the automatic backup.
  • Click OK without entering the Windows password.
  • Run QuickBooks as administrator

Here's how to run QuickBooks as administrator:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Right-click on the QuickBooks icon.
  3. Select Run as administrator.

I'm having a related problem with QB run on my Mac. It only runs the automatic backup for the administrator. When other users quit the program there is no backup created. We'd like a backup to be created after any user is done. Could you help us?

Allow me to help and provide you with some information regarding creating an automatic backup via QuickBooks for Mac.

 

To be in-line with your question, yes you're right. The automatic backup runs only for the computer administrator and will not work for QuickBooks users. They will need to manually create a backup copy.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Set your Backup Preferences.
  2. Go to File then click Back Up.
