Back orders - can you turn it off on Sales Orders?

I have some customers who never want back orders, I have other customers who only want back orders if it hits a certain percentage of the total amount.  Another words, if its 3 pcs, they may not want the back order on a 300 pcs order.  I can't seem to find any place that I can turn off the back order feature or modify it.  So I am assuming it can't be changed.  I am finding these 3 pcs are still in an open sales order.  I don't want to delete the sales order with 3 pcs (or do I?).  My thought is after I invoice is to change the quantity ordered on the sales order to 297 pcs?  Or is there some other way to handle this?  Thanks, Wendi

Well that won't work for my customers, they'll call and ask why they ordered 300 and the invoice says they only ordered 297.  My work around will be invoice correctly, then go back in and change the quantity to 297 after the fact.  I'll have to ponder this, not quite sure why we can't change the back order quantity to zero.  Thanks anyways, Wendi

I'd like to add further information, Wendi.

Aside from deleting the invoice and then modifying the sales order, you can leave it as is. You can edit the sales order to its correct quantity and the linked invoice will retroactively correct the amount. The back-order will be zeroed out.

Hello, @Wendi Jo.

Let me share some ways to correct the number of quantity in your sales order.

When updating the quantity of the items of an invoice linked to a sales order, you'll receive a warning prompt about it.

Since the sales order is still open, you can edit the sales order before completing the invoice.

However, if you've already created the invoice with the correct quantity, you can delete it. Then, edit the sales order and recreate the invoice.
