Welcome and thank you for posting in the QuickBooks Community. I'll share different information on how the recognized column works in QuickBooks Online.
If you're referring to the categorized column in the Banking page, it works after you matched or added the downloaded transactions they're recorded into QuickBooks. That said, all entries that you already categorized will go in the recognized column. You can also review your work and make sure everything is correct from there.
If you're referring to the For Review column in the Banking section, all transactions from there are entries that haven't been reviewed yet. With this, QuickBooks sends downloaded transactions directly to the For Review tab and you'll have to review them one-by-one by matching, adding, or viewing multiple matches to make sure you avoid duplicate entries and your account stays accurate.
