Hey there, @David181.

I'd be glad to offer my assistance.

When have printing issues in QuickBooks, I recommend using our Print & PDF repair tool from our QB Tool Hub. However, if the tool isn't successful you can try the following steps or have your IT professional resolve the printer settings as you may need a updated driver.

Here are the steps you'll need to Repair QuickBooks:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu, then select Control Panel. (If you're using Windows 8 or 8.1, search "Control Panel" in the Windows Start menu.)
  2. Select Programs and Features.
  3. Select QuickBooks from the list of Programs, then Uninstall/Change.
  4. Click Continue, or Next.
  5. Choose Repair, then Next.
  6. Once it's done, click Finish.

If you have any questions or concerns please know I'm only a post away. Thank you and take care.

I have Quickbooks installed on 2 new laptops and am having the same issue. All reports print with a black background. I have tried both of your tips up above and its still happening. Do you have any other fixes? Thank you

Welcome to the thread, @User9225.

There are multiple things that can cause issues with printing, such as a driver related issue or even the type of paper that's being used. In your case, to get this fix, I recommend updating the driver on the printer.

You can check below articles for guidance on how to fix printing issues:

You can always get back to me if you have any other questions. I'm more than happy to help. Have a great day!

Thanks for updating us, @User9225.

Let me add additional troubleshooting steps to get this sorted out. I recommend creating a sample company file and print your reports from there. I'd be glad to walk you through the steps.

This way, we can check if this issue is within your company file or not. Here's how to do it in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT):

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Click New Company
  3. Choose Express Start
  4. Follow the onscreen steps to finish the setup

For more details, check this great article: Create a QuickBooks Desktop Company File

If you're able to print the report without issues, I suggest running the Verify and Rebuild Data tools. Running this will resolve minor issues in your company file.

However, if the issue persists, you'll want to perform a clean install. A clean install fixes any issues in your company file.

Also, I encourage you to check this great article for reference in customizing your reports in QBDT. This way, you'll learn how to generate a report to show the data you need: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can always count on us if you have other quires. We'll be around ready to help. Take care!
