The correct answer is to use group. You create a group with a name very similar to your assembly.

Receive from suppliers as group so each stock item is updated with the qty received.

If you need to assemble, you use your assembly. As for receiving, the group is automatically split into individual items when you receive.

Hello there, jaapkrijger.

I'll share some information on handling your inventory.

Yes, you can definitely do that. You'll be able to unbuild assembled products so that their components can be returned to your inventory.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu, select Item Lists
  2. Locate the assembly product you want to unbuild.
  3. Click the Report dropdown at the bottom of the window.
  4. Choose QuickReport.
  5. Find and double-click the build transaction you want to adjust to open it.
  6. Click Edit, then Delete if you want to delete the build transaction or you can edit the quantity.

On the other hand, you can also make manual adjustments to your stock. Check out this article for more detailed information: Adjust your stock quantity or value in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've included this resource for more insights: Track the products you manufacture. This contains some useful inventory management information.

You're always welcome to post again if you need further assistance with managing assembly products or inventory. I'll be here to help you.

@jaapkrijger

If you always run the process like that, you should have an additional app with the disassembly feature to avoid mistake.

I don't think you read the question I asked. If I buy an assembly from a supplier, can I unbuild it?

e.g. in my records there is no build transaction.

In other words, you can't do this in QB itself?
