Can't use Outlook or Thunderbird in QB Enterprise 24

We upgraded from QB 23.0 to 24.0 a week or so before Christmas, and everything was working fine. Now, our ability to send forms through either Thunderbird or Outlook is gone. It was working before Xmas, but it's gone now. The option isn't even there. The only options we have are Webmail or Quickbooks Email (and a couple of seats don't even have the QB mail option ). The problem with using QB mail is there's no way to see your sent email history.

Funny thing, though. My boss was having problems downloading payroll updates, and I ended up having to completely uninstall and reinstall QB24 and all updates. His QB24 has Outlook. If I sign myself into a backup copy of QB23, I have Outlook as an option. On QB24 it's gone. But, as I said before, it was working fine 3 weeks ago, before the holiday.

Can't use Outlook or Thunderbird in QB Enterprise 24

Hi, BiteMe4. I appreciate your initiative to resolve the issue.

Since you have already uninstalled and reinstalled QuickBooks Desktop and performed an update, I recommend contacting our Live Support team. They can guide you through the next steps to make either Thunderbird or Outlook available. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help to open the Help window. You can also press F1 on your keyboard to open the Help window.
  3. Use the Search questions, keywords, or topics field to enter your question.
  4. Select Contact Us to connect with an expert.

As a workaround, you can install a 64-bit version of Outlook or Thunderbird. This might still require a clean install of QuickBooks after the email application is reinstalled.

Please don't hesitate to reply if you have any other questions. We're here to guide you every step of the way.

Did you actually read the entire message? I said on the ONE PC I HAD to re-install, ( and changed from install next to QB23 to over-write ), now works. Its the other PCs that aren't working. The issue is, they DID WORK BEFORE CHRISTMAS ! THEY DON'T NOW, and I want to know what changed between Dec 22 and Jan 5 while the office was closed.

Second attempt at replying to this thread. We are experiencing the same problem. Multi-user environment received a forced QB Desktop 24.0 update. It was a slow rollout and took 2 weeks to make its way through our workstations. The last workstation received the update on Dec. 30, 2025. Each workstation lost the ability to email using Thunderbird upon the update. It is NOT a Thunderbird problem. We have removed and reinstalled 32-bit (recommended by QB) Thunderbird and it did not solve the issue. Thunderbird is not among the listed options in QB Preferences. Our work around has been to save QB documents as PDFs and then email them straight out of Thunderbird. It is time-consuming, but will work until QB fixes the issue they created. Frustrating for the amount paid for a multi-user license.  If anyone has a viable solution, we are ready to hear about it.

Seventh attempt at replying to this thread. We are experiencing the same problem using Thunderbird to email out of QB Desktop. Our multi-user environment received a forced QB Desktop 24.0 update. It was a slow rollout from QB and took 2 weeks to make its way through our workstations. The last workstation received the update on Dec. 30, 2025. It was one of those updates that pops up on your screen when opening QB. You have no option of stopping it. Each workstation lost the ability to email using Thunderbird upon the Dec. 15-30th update. It is NOT a Thunderbird problem. We have removed and reinstalled 32-bit (recommended by QB) and it did not solve the issue. Thunderbird is not among the listed options in QB Preferences. Can't use Outlook or Thunderbird in QB Enterprise 24

Over the weekend, I uninstalled QB24 on the 2 seats that can't email, then reinstalled and installed all updates. Guess what? The email options for Thunderbird or Outlook was there. YAY!

Now, today ( Tuesday), my QB still shows Thuinderbird as an email option.

BUT, the other seat is back to Web or WB Mail. Her Outlook option is gone again. It was there yesterday, and is gone today. WHAT THE HELL is going on???????

What we have done with this is to send with QB mail, and add ourselves in the BCC field. That way we at least have a record of what was sent when.

Hi BiteMe4,

Thanks for coming back and letting us know the steps you’ve taken to address the email issue. While your BCC workaround is a great way to keep records for now, we want to get things back to a normal workflow.
