Join nowHello,
I am trying to troubleshoot a QuickBooks issue for a client. Customer is using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 21.0 however they cannot open a company file in multi-user mode. I believe the issue is with the QuickBooksDB31 service. It will not start. When I check the logs it says, "The QuickBooksDB31 service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not start due to a logon failure." I presume the password for the QBDataServiceUser31 account (which is what is used to run the service) was changed somehow. The account is not locked out. Is it safe to change this password? Or perhaps delete the account? If account gets deleted, will QB automatically recreate the account and enter the credentials in the QuickBooksDB31 service? please advise.
Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to post here in the Community, VC31326. I know how challenging it is when your client can't open the company file. I'm here to assist you with that.
Since the QuickBooksDB31 service will not start, let's recreate the QBDataServiceUserXX. This way, your client can access their QuickBooks data. I'll show you how:
For more details about the process, please see this article: Database Manager Service.

Thank you very much. I will try it as soon as I can.
I'm preparing to help someone with this problem and steps to select the service and click "Log On" seem to be just an exercise. Is there something do once you click the "Log On" tab?
Someone recently ran a password reset tool on our QB server and we've lost multiuser access to the DB. When we open QB on either the server or a second machine it goes through a repair process and that locks out the other machine.
Hello ecsproull,
Let's isolate if the cause of the issue is a damaged QuickBooks Database Server Manager. I'm here to help resolve the issue so you can access Multi-User Mode.
To start with, let's turn on hosting. Here's how:
If the same issue persists, let's configure the services. You can follow these steps:
If you're still unable to access the Multi-user mode, proceed to Solutions 3 and 4 in this article: The QuickBooksDBXX service on the Local Computer started and then stopped.
