Categorize Credit Card Bill Payments That Are Not Synced

Hello all!

We have past business transactions purchased with credit cards that are not synced in QBO. We pay the credit card bills with the checking account that is synced to QBO. I know these payments are not expenses but the actual individual purchases made with the credit cards are the expenses.

When the transaction for the bill payment comes up in the checking account for review, what do I do with it?

I'm using QuickBooks Simple Start if that matters.

TIA! :)

Thanks for coming back, HappySelling.

Allow me to step in and share some information about handling credit card payments that are not synced in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, you would still need to set up an account for each of the credit cards for record keeping purposes.

Hi there, HappySelling.

You can Transfer the transaction from your checking account to the credit card account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and choose Banking
  2. Select the checking account beside the Bank and Credit Cards
  3. In the For Review tab, locate and click the transaction you want to transfer.
  4. Choose the Transfer radio button and the credit card account where the payment will apply.
  5. Then click Transfer
  6. Afterwards, select the credit card account to view the transaction details for that account.
  7. Select the Recognized tab and locate the transaction.
  8. Choose Find match radio button.
  9. A Match transaction window will appear for you to choose the transaction.
  10. Then click Save

Greetings, TaylordPrints.

You can create a check, then match the downloaded transaction to it.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Plus sign (+) icon, then choose Check.
  2. Click the Bank Account drop-down arrow, then choose the bank account from which the payment is made.
  3. Click the Payee drop-down arrow, then enter the credit card name (vendor name).
  4. Under CATEGORY, choose the credit card account.
  5. Enter the payment amount in the AMOUNT field.
  6. Click Save and close

I've got you an article for future reference: How to record credit card payments.

So I would still need to set up an account for each of the credit cards, even though they're not synced to QB?

Since I have to set up accounts for each credit card anyway, would it be the same just to Transfer from the checking to the credit card?
