Change orders

I recently changed the amount of users on Quickbooks. Every since then when I create a change order, the window prompting me whether to add or not does not pop up. Therefore I am unable to show it as a change order for my customer to approve. Any idea what's going on?

Re: Change orders

Hello there, @Pattyatbeach.

Thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. I'm here to help isolate the issue you encounter about the change order in QuickBooks Desktop.

The change order will show up only once you made changes on the estimate transaction amount. If it doesn't show on your end, you'll need to rebuild and verify the data in QuickBooks Desktop to remove the empty or damaged information from the file.

Here's how to rebuild the data:

  1. At the top menu bar, click File.
  2. Select Utilities, and choose Rebuild Data.
  3. Click OK if you receive a prompt to backup your company file.
  4. Your computer may display the message QuickBooks is not responding. However, as long as you can see your mouse cursor to move, Rebuild is still ongoing. Wait for it to complete.
  5. Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed and process the next troubleshooting steps.

To verify the data in QuickBooks, you can follow the detailed steps in this article: Resolve data damage on your company file

This should get you on the right track. Fill free to leave a comment below if you have any other questions about the change order. Have a good one.

Re: Change orders Not Working in Estimates

I used your recomendation to try to get Change Orders to work but it still doesn't after I Rebuilt the Data in my architectural services Company. I can enter changes which change the total of the Estimate but, when I close the Estimate it never asks if I want to save thet Chhanges as a Change Order with that unique font that should highlight that a Change Order was added. Any other ideas.

Re: Change orders Not Working in Estimates

Thanks for your prompt response, ACM661.

Every time you make changes on an estimate, QuickBooks shows a warning pop-up after clicking the Save & Close button (see the first screenshot). Since this message didn't show up, let me help you bring it back in the Preferences screen.

Here's how:

  1. Click Edit at the top, then choose Preferences.
  2. Select General.
  3. Under My Preferences tab, check the box next to Bring back all one time messages.
  4. Click OK.

The screenshot shows these steps as well.
