Chinese characters display problem

Good day, BeckyMT.

You will need to change the Region and Language settings to have your vendors displayed in Chinese characters. Here's how:

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows+R to open the run command.
  2. Type in Control panel, then select OK.
  3. Choose Clock, Language and Region, then click Change Location.
  4. In Home Location (Current Location in Windows7 and Vista), select China.
  5. On the Administrative tab, select Change System Locale, then choose Chinese.
  6. Select Apply, then click OK.
  7. Reboot the computer.

Re-open QuickBooks and check if the vendors names are already shown in Chinese characters. You can also refer to this guide article from Microsoft support site for more details:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/4027670/windows-10-add-and-switch-input-and-display-languag...

Hello, hengus.

Let’s try to run the Verify Rebuild Utility to allow the program identify the root cause of this issue and also to fix the issue eventually.

To run the Verify utility:

  1. Go to File at the top.
  2. Select Utilities from the option.
  3. Choose Verify Data.

To run the Rebuild utility:

  1. Click File at the very top.
  2. Select Utilities from the drop down option.
  3. Choose Rebuild Data.

For further information, please refer to this article: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1774819-verify-and-rebuild-data-in-quickbooks-desktop.

I am using QB Enterprise version18.  We have Chinese characters in items.  We use Zebra TC 25 scanner to scan our items. The scanner can't display Chinese characters. The scanner show the bardcode, the item number, but not the Chineses character. How can QuickBooks solve this problem?

Chinese characters display problem

Hello @Bartholtam,

As of the moment, Chinese language or characters isn't supported and QuickBooks is unable to display it.

QuickBooks uses your system language settings and is designed to work well with English. We're always looking for ways to make the software better for all users.

Everything we develop within the program derives from listening to our customers. I'll submit your request to our product developers.

This way, they'll be able to know your sentiments about the importance of using the Chinese language on your business.

For any QuickBooks Desktop updates and feature enhancements, you can always visit our QuickBooks Resource Center.

Please let me know in the comment section down below if you have any other questions. It'll be always my pleasure to help.

Thanks, now I can have my vendors and items' name showed in Chinese.  However when I do the cheque run, there are funny characters shown on my chat of account. Such as "Account 5000 office expenses", will show as "Account 5000 ?? office expense".  I have no way to bypass it.  Even I add a new expense account, the problem is still shown up.  The system keeps telling me it can't recognize this account.

Anyone experiences the same problem?  How to fix it?

Good to hear that you've changed the language successfully, emondora.

Special characters will appear if your data is damaged. It is usually caused by sudden changes of the system settings while the program is running.

Let's fix the data damage so we can get rid of these characters. We can do the Verify and Rebuild process. It will automatically fix data issues.

The next time you change system settings, make sure you close QuickBooks. Then you can reopen it after those changes.

If the same thing happens, I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. They can further investigate this and provide additional troubleshooting steps.

  1. Click Help at the top menu and select Support.
  2. Go to the Additional resources section and select Contact us.
  3. Choose a topic in the first section.
  4. Go to the second section and choose how you want to reach them.

Let me know if you have other questions.

And it created another problem, when I login to Community inside QuickBooks Desktop Pro, I got the following error message.

Hi, @emondora.

Since you received an error message, I suggest configuring your firewall settings.

Here's how:

  1. From Windows search bar open Windows Firewall.
  2. Click Advanced Settings.
  3. Right-click Inbound Rules, then select New Rule.
  4. Click Port, then select Next.
  5. Make sure TCP is selected. Enter the specific ports needed for your QuickBooks year version, then select Next.
  6. Click Allow the Connection, select Next.
  7. If prompted, make sure all profiles are marked, click Next.
  8. Give the rule a name, such as QBPorts(year). Select Finish.
  9. Repeat the steps above for the Outbound Rules (for step 3, choose Outbound Rules instead of Inbound). Try opening QuickBooks Desktop again in multi-user mode. Or over your network to see if the issue has been resolved.

For additional information, you can read this article: Configure firewall security settings for Desktop.

Please don't hesitate to drop your question below. Have a nice day!

Contact the support, but no luck.  She said Quickbooks only supports English.  So she won't able to help me on it.

Hi emondora,

You'll want to manually edit each affected account in the Chart of Accounts or use the English language instead.

To edit an account, you can follow these steps:

  1. Click Company located at the top and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click on the affected account and select Edit Account.
  3. Edit the Account Name.
  4. Click Save and Close.

For changing the language back to English, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague JenoP.

I'll be around if you need more help. Thanks.

Since I used Quickbook from 2018 until 2021, quickbook company always said will take all questions and issues to developer for develop. But until 2021, still no choice for use Unicode . We really hopeless and decide to use local system is better.

Durning 2020, users in Cambodia replace to use local accounting system that allow to use Unicode . We really hope that Quickbook can allow Unicode to use but really hopeless until today.

Thanks.
