class assignment to transactions

Hi.  I just converted from QB online to QB2019 Mac.  All ties out.  I have a list of classes from the online side and can even do reports by class on Mac now.  But in looking at making an entry in a register on the Mac, I do not see how to assign class to a new entry.  I have gone to Preferences/Transactions and checked "use class tracking"" so any help would be greatly appreiated.  Thanks.

Re: class assignment to transactions

Yes, that's correct, @rhrawal

You'll have to save a transaction, open it, and then assign class. This is currently the recommended way to update it in the Mac version.

Please know that I hear and take note of your insights about adding class to the transactions in the register. I recommend checking out this article if you're using the 2019 version: What's New. This link provides a quick rundown of the product new releases.

You can also generate some of the reports below to compare the balances across multiple classes, departments, or locations.

  • Unpaid Bills Detail report sorted by class
  • AR Aging Detail report filtered by class
  • Open Accounts Receivable by class
  • Credit card by class

For detailed steps on how to run the reports, go through this article: Filter, Sort, or Total Reports by Class

I'm here anytime you have other concerns. I'll gladly help, @rhrawal

Re: class assignment to transactions

I'm glad to share some insights about class tracking in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, @rhrawal.

Usually, we cannot add class to the transaction/s in the register. If you wish to, you can open the saved transaction and add a class to it manually.

For more information about class tracking, you can check this article: Set up and use class tracking.

Keep posted if you have any other questions. I'm always here to help.

Re: class assignment to transactions

Thank you AT.  I had seen the article in your link but cannot see the class in a saved transaction.  How do I see/edit class in saved transactions please?  Thanks.

Re: class assignment to transactions

Ah..just figured out that when I double click (open) a transaction, it opens as a check register and then I can see/edit class.  So for each transaction I enter, I will have to save it, open it, and then assign class.  Correct?  Any faster way like it used to be with QBO?  Thanks again.
