COGs error on company file upload

Thanks for coming here, IrisNetwork.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) uses Cost of Good Sold (COGS) Account as default Expense account for an inventory item. This is the reason why you're getting the message to convert inventory expense accounts to COGs accounts.

To learn more about the limitations, please check out this article : What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Once you're ready to start the conversion process, you can have this article handy for your reference: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

COGs error on company file upload

Is there any way to override this at the conversion process, but move forward with the QBO conventions going forward?

COGs error on company file upload

Thank you for following up with us, @IrisNetwork.

I can share with you the workaround on how to successfully move the file to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In this case, you need to manually update the accounts linked to your inventory items from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I can guide you on how.

  1. Open the file using your QBDT.
  2. Select Item List from the Lists menu.
  3. Locate the item, then choose Edit Item.
  4. Review and update the accounts from there.
  5. Replicate the steps for the rest of the items.

To learn more about adding and editing items in QBDT, you can check out this link: Add, edit, and delete items.

Once done, proceed with importing your desktop file to QBO. For your reference, you may open this article.

You can also review the links under What's next? for more resources in the future.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you again. If you have any other QuickBooks questions, please feel free to add a comment below. Have a great day!
