combining two QBO companies into one...

Client (friend) is running QBO as two companies but really needs to be one company by location. QBO does not offer a conversion tool but I wondered if the following would work. Sorry to any regulars but this is my first post so be nice...

1. export details from each QBO company

2. import each into a single QB desktop company and clean up the data

3. import merged results from desktop back into a new QBO company

Is there a better way to accomplish this? Thanks in advance...

combining two QBO companies into one...

Let me share some information about combining two QuickBooks Online (QBO) companies into one, YnadrNedo.

The ability to merge two company data files into one company is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. We can manually enter the data into the company you want to preserve because each business is generated as a distinct file and cannot be combined. The lists can also be copied or moved from one QBO firm to another. We can export a list from one company and import it into another in the majority of Online editions. Locate the list you want to export, click Excel, save it to your computer, and then import it into a different business:

By importing a file, you can convert or merge a company from another version of QuickBooks into QuickBooks Online. However, you can only do this for a brand-new company if it hasn't been around for more than 60 days. You'll need to establish a new one if the company has been operating for longer than 60 days. If you want to convert or merge a company from QuickBooks Online to another version of QuickBooks, you can do so by exporting the file first, but the data will only export into a New QuickBooks Desktop company and not into an existing one.

If you migrate your data from desktop to QBO, you can check out this article to keep track of your financials in QuickBooks: What to do after you move from QBDT for Windows or Mac to QBO. Furthermore, I've added these articles to help you understand what data is exported and how to resolve errors when migrating from the desktop to the online version:

If you need to use a third-party importer or converter tool app, just follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Apps on the left panel.
  2. Type a keyword or click the Browse category drop-down menu.
  3. Select Sync Data and you'll find all the importer apps that can be integrated into your QuickBooks Online account.
  4. Click the app to see the key benefits and hit the Get app now and follow the instructions to connect.

Furthermore, you can contact the app's support to learn more about the import process. In case you need help with another task in the program, you can visit our General Help topics page. Just type your concern in the search field and this page will route you to the related help articles, Community discussions, video tutorials, and more.

Please let me know in your reply if you require additional information about the process or other concerns. I'll be right here to help. Take care!

@YnadrNedo

You should prepare a new QBO Plus or Advanced account.

then you may have 2 ways to merge data from the old accounts

1. Use a migration tool

2. Purchase a 3rd party service to merge them.
