Join nowI've been trying to open a company file but everyone that I choose ends up being the same 20 year old file. It's truly absurd, and to me totally baffling. The most current backup always needs to be upgraded, even though it was created with the 2020 version of QB desktop. Has this ever happened to anyone. Should I uninstall and then reinstall? Any help would be greatly appreciated...............................Dave
Curious. How big is your file size? Have you run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility?

You also can do it manually by using File Explorer. For more guidance, feel free to check out this article: Locating Backups and Company Data Files.
However, if it still showing the old file, let's run the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix data issues on your company file. Let me guide you how.
Here's an article you can read for more guidance: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
