Company Name Change using QBO Online

We change the name of our company and had to open another quickbooks account for our new company account because all our invoices for the year would be changed to our new company name and would throw our books off.  Is there any one that has gone thru this and can give me some pointers on switch everything to the new name without throwing our books off. I know we cant combine them but we are trying to figure out how to handle the payments and banking and invoicing situations. PLEASE HELP US lol

Thanks for checking us out here in the Community. I'd be happy to help and share some information about changing your company name in QuickBooks Online. 

 

If you're signed up for E-Services, QuickBooks Online will not allow you to edit the legal name on your account. To know more about this process, please check out this article: Changes that require a new authorization form for electronic services. However, if you haven't signed up for the said services, you can go ahead and change your company name on your QuickBooks. Take note that this will affect all your historical transactions.

 

Let me guide you how:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Under Your Company, choose Account and Settings.
  3. Select Company from the left.
  4. In the Company name section, select the Pencil icon to edit the company phone and email address.
  5. Make the necessary changes.
  6. Select Save then Done.

Company Name Change using QBO Online

I don't believe we had the E services because I was able to change our company name.  We waited till the new year to change our name so we wouldn't have any problems but I was told by a QuickBooks Rep that when we change our name to the new company name that all invoices that were done in 2018 with the old company name will be replaced with the new company name. Is there anyway to not have that happen?

I can provide additional information about changing company name in QuickBooks Online.

 

At this time, you are required to change the company information for the previous transactions if you change the company name in QuickBooks Online. If the IRS provided a new EIN for your company, you'll need to get a new subscription, set up, and create a new account with QuickBooks.

You should not open another quickbooks account if it's just a name change and the EIN stays the same
