Connecting over network to find company file

Hello,

So even though it has been a while since I have been in a office I don't ever remember quickbooks being this difficult. We have QB 2019 running on Windows 10. Install went easily, finding each other on the network took a little bit but then we got that straight, but now it only bring up his desk top files. Nothing with QB,

on his end with the QB database service manager, says he is good to go no problems. On my end it seems to be a different story and I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to fix it so I can really get to work. I posted below the messages that it is giving me. It is on the server computer end and he doesn't have QB to be shared, or is it because of the errors on my end?

So the picture files are to large

Connecting over network to find company file

Thanks for the detailed information, @LenaH22.

I appreciate you for performing some steps to resolve your concern. To start, let's make sure that QuickBooks Server Manager is installed. This will share your company files with other computers over your network.

In case you haven't installed, you can follow these steps below:

  1. Close all open programs on your server computer, including QuickBooks.
  2. Open the install file you downloaded. It's called Setup_QuickBooks.exe.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions. If you need to find your product or license numbers, here's how to find them.
  4. When QuickBooks asks you to choose an install type, select Custom or Network Options. Then select Next. Don't choose Express.
  5. Choose the best option for your network setup and then select Next. Both the options install the Database Server Manager. If QuickBooks Desktop is already installed on your server computer, this won’t overwrite any existing company data.
    • If you want Database Server Manager and QuickBooks Desktop on your server computer, select I'll be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer, AND I'll be storing... We strongly recommend this option.
    • If you only want Database Server Manager on your server computer, select I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop.

6 .Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions then click Install. Windows may ask you for permission.

Refer to this article for more details: Install QuickBooks Database Server Manager.

You can also download and install QuickBooks Tool Hub. This can help fix common errors and issues.

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. We recommend you download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Then, run the Quick Fix my Program:

  1. From the tool hub, select the Company File Issues tab.
  2. Select Quick Fix my File.
  3. Select OK when it completes and launch your QuickBooks.

See this article for detailed steps: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

Once everything works fine, feel free to open our QBDT help articles in case you need related links while working with QuickBooks in the future.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comments. Stay safe!
