Trying to do a local backup of my database in QB2020, when I go to File> Backup Company, I see Last Local backup: date and time but it is grayed out, I also see Restore previous backup and I see setup / activate Online backup. I don't see an option for Create Local backup. If I go to utilities and do a rebuild, it does a backup (this is my workaround at the moment) and when it checks the database for errors there are none. This is happening in multiple databases so it seems like it must be a software related issue instead of a database related issue but I don't know how to get the create local backup option back again.
Hi there 269.
Thanks for joining the QuickBooks Community. I'm happy to help. In order to create a local backup you need to be in Single-user mode. Once there, you should be good to go, I'll provide the steps below:
You can find these steps as well as additional information at the following article: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to post below. Thank you and have a nice afternoon.
I don't have a switch to single user mode option. I have an option to switch to multi user mode. I have switched from one to the other but still no local backup option.
Just to want to make sure your current situation. Try create a dummy file or open a sample one. If you are unable to backup it, there is something wrong with your QB. Try reinstall the software.
Hello @VKniss - RDM,
Let me help share information on why you're unable to create a local backup copy of your company file when in multi-user mode.
When in multi-user mode, users do business work on the same company file while accessing it in the server. In this mode, it may not save any data worked on by the other users on the server while creating a local copy.
With this, it is recommended to switch from multi-user to single-user mode when in need to create a local back up copy of your company data. To learn more, here a direct link you can visit for reference: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
Lastly, I've also included this reference in case you need the steps in restoring and accessing back the copy of your company data: Restore a backup of your company file.
