Creating a Portable Company File in QB 2004

Hello -

Would anyone know how to create a 'portable' company file within QB Desktop's 2004 version? Under the 'file' menu, there doesn't seem to be an option for creating a portable copy...

Thanks!

Creating a Portable Company File in QB 2004

Thanks for reaching out to the Community forum, @artasllc.

QuickBooks Desktop 2004 is a discontinued and no longer supported version of QuickBooks. You may consider using our trial version to upgrade your program.

Once done, you can continue creating a portable company file. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks and log in as an admin.
  2. Go to the File menu at the top.
  3. Choose Create Copy.
  4. Select Portable company file and then Next.
  5. Give your portable company file a unique name.
  6. Choose a location to save your portable company file.
  7. Select Save and then OK.

For detailed steps, see this article: Create and open portable company files in QuickBooks Desktop.

Reach out to me if there's anything else you need. I'll be here to keep helping. Take good care.

@artasllc

It seems the feature to create the QBM file was not available on that year version.
