Hello CLL,

You can create a 1099 NEC report by going to the Vendor tab. Let me guide you with these steps:

  1. From the Vendor menu, select Print/E-file 1099s.
  2. On the Before you print and file forms 1099 prompt, select Yes.
  3. Click Get Started for 1099 NEC.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Hit Continue and then Continue again.

Please note that Form 1099-NEC due date is February 1, 2021. Make sure to submit the form before due dates to avoid getting penalties. For more details, you can check this article: Tax year due dates

I've added this article about the year-end task: QuickBooks Desktop Year End Prep and Resources.

Let me know how things work on your end. Keep safe!

Adrian,

Thank you for the reply, I am familiar with running 1099's over the years to include last year, however, when I go to the Print/E-file 1099s., I am not able to get pass the update.  I run the update but it still does not allow me to go any further.

Thank you for getting back to us, @CLL.

I want to make sure you can create and file your 1099s in QuickBooks Desktop.

Since you're still not able to create 1099s after performing the QuickBooks update, let's run the reboot.bat file to re-register the QuickBooks-related .DLL and .OCX files in Microsoft Windows. Here's how:

  1. Close your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop, then select Properties.
  3. Click on Open file location.
  4. Type "reboot.bat" in the search field (at the upper right corner).
  5. Right-click the reboot.bat file and choose Run as Administrator. The file may display as reboot.bat or reboot.
  6. When the reboot.bat file utility has been completed, the window will close.
  7. Restart your computer.

Once done, open your company file and create your federal 1099s.

If you get the same result, let's proceed with repairing QuickBooks. This article will guide you through the steps: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

Just in case you want to learn more about creating and filing your 1099s, you can check out this article for more guidance: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm still open to your replies, @CLL. Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need further assistance filing 1099s.

Mark,

Two issues.  First - we ran the repair which allowed the Menu Wizard to come up to create and print the 1099, however, when I exit I have to re-run the repair each time in order for the menu to come up.

Second - it does not print on the 3 per page forms, only set up to do the 2 per page forms.
