Data structure when converting your QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac

Hello Yee,

Round tripping is the process of converting QuickBooks Desktop for Windows to Mac and vice versa. There are some restrictions due to some lack of features in QuickBooks for Mac. To learn more about it, please see Convert a QuickBooks Mac file to QuickBooks Windows and back again. In this article, you'll learn a couple of lists that won't get converted.

For your Chart of Account list, all accounts must be converted. Let's try to troubleshoot it by running the Re-sort List or Verify and Rebuild tool in QuickBooks for Mac: Here's how:

  1. Select the Lists menu and select the list Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select the Include Inactive checkbox. Note that if there are no inactive accounts, items, etc., the box will be grayed out.
  3. From the List (Account/Item) drop-down, select Re-sort List.
  4. Click OK on the Are you sure you want to return this list to its original order? prompt.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!

The problem may be in QuickBooks for Windows, too.  Try File->Utilities->Rebuild over there _before_ exporting and see if that helps.
