Data Verify Fails; Data Rebuild Fails; Mystery Error Message

File - Utilities - Verify Data returns this error in a pop up:

The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.intuit.QuickBooks.QBGeneralValidationErrorDomain error 8.)

File - Utilities - Rebuild Data returns the same error in *three* pop up windows.

I was unable to reach anyone on chat support yesterday, despite waiting for over an hour.

Searches for this error come up with nothing useful.

I just finished closing 2019, and would like to be able to fix this, rather than having to roll back to a prior back up and re-do several days of work.

Data Verify Fails; Data Rebuild Fails; Mystery Error Message

Hi there, shaysler.

There are times that a possible Data damage or errors can remain undetected if it's not causing errors. Although, you can regularly run the Verify and Rebuild Data Utility tool to find these undetected errors in your company file.

I would also recommend reaching out to our Technical Support Team for QuickBooks for Mac. They can take a closer look at the logs and check if there other options to remove the error without deleting all and recreating all of them. Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Select QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
  3. Select the Company File option, then select a sub-topic.
  4. Scroll-down a little bit and click Start a Message

Data Verify Fails; Data Rebuild Fails; Mystery Error Message

After spending most of the afternoon with support, the data is not reparable, so I need to go back to the last good back up of April 2 and re-enter all of the transactions since then.

Data Verify Fails; Data Rebuild Fails; Mystery Error Message

Hello, @AndrewC1.

I appreciate the steps you've taken to get this issue resolved. Since you've already run the rebuild tool, let's try and locate your QBWin.log to help determine the cause of the error. You can check out this article and continue performing the steps for additional data damage: Resolve data damage on your company file.

If re-sorting your list won't fix the issue, I'd suggest contacting our Desktop Support Team to isolate this further, They'll be able to access your account in a secure environment and dig deeper using their advanced tools.

Here's how to get their contact information:

  1. Go to: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Choose your QuickBooks Product.
  3. On the Contact Us page, click a topic.
  4. Click on the Get Phone Number button to see the support number.

Keep me posted if you have other questions. I'm always here to help.

Thank you for the reply. However, I'm on a Mac, and the Toolkit is Windows-only.

Data Verify Fails; Data Rebuild Fails; Mystery Error Message

Hello there, shaysler. Glad to have you back.

In QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, we can manually correct and fix that error using our transaction record numbers. We’ll have a link to open on your QuickBooks.log file since there's an error that occurred. From there, we'll be able to see the list of errors in your company file. Let me guide you first on how to find your QuickBooks.log file. Here's how:

  1. Press the command key, then choose Go
  2. Then, select Library.
  3. Double-click the Logs folder as well as the QuickBooks.log file.

Afterwards, we can continue following the steps below to complete the process:

  1. Click the Edit option, then select Find.
  2. Search for @recnum then enter the record number.

Aside from the steps above, I would like to include this article that provides more tips and information in completing the process: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

I'm always here together with my colleague to help you more in case you need one. Stay safe! Take care!

Data Verify Fails; Data Rebuild Fails; Mystery Error Message

Hi, Sarahann - Thank you for your reply.

I pulled the log via Console.

There are over 10,000 errors in the file going back to July 2019.

1, How is it possible that QB has been having problems like this for so long without my knowing about it?

2. I checked a few of them at random, and they are all correct.

The instructions read:
"Look through the results and modify or reenter the data to fix the problem."

So, if the data is correct, does that mean I have to delete and re-enter the transactions?
