I'm working with a QB Pro (Desktop 2018) installation that has not had data condensed for quite a while, probably 10 years or more. It's running fine, but the company file is over 500MB (is that unusually large? I don't know).
I recently moved it from an old, tired computer to a newer, faster one, with a fresh install of QB2018. I seem to recall that a Verify and/or rebuild were done automatically when I first opened the company file.
Anyway, I tried to do a Condense Data, archiving transactions older than 2015. It ran for an hour or so, then stopped. A dialogue box opened asking me to send a report to QB, which I did. Then I got the Windows "Quickbooks Pro Desktop 2018 has stopped running" message. I tried to reopen, but the file was damaged, QB instructed me to restore from backup. Which I did.
So next I tried to run Verify. It too crashed after a half-hour or so, with a dialog box recommending that I run Rebuild, but also offering a button to see the error. I clicked, the "See Error" (or whatever the label was), and a completely blank window opened. I closed it, but rather than returning me to the Rebuild option, Quickbooks closed.
I reopened it, no problem, and tried to run Rebuild. It ran for 30-45 minutes, then crashed with the same "send report" window, followed by "... stopped running", and I was forced to restore from backup again.
Meanwhile, all day to day operations in the program seem to be working normally, the program never crashes while recording or paying bills, running payroll, or reconciling accounts or anything.
I only work here a couple days a month, so I'll take up this issue again in a week or two. But any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
