Desktop Pro 2018.

We are using Desktop Pro 2018. When i started entering transactions for 2019 i received the notice saying i was posting to a closed period. Not sure why 2019 entries would be for a closed perid?

Hi there, 21275.

Thanks for posting in the Community. I can provide clarification on the notice you received when entering transactions for 2019.

Based on the situation that you've mentioned, this can only happen if the Closing Date of your company file was set incorrectly. That being said, let's take a closer look at your preferences and make the necessary corrections. Here's how:

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Select Accounting in the left panel.
  3. Go to the Company Preferences tab.
  4. Click the Set Date/Password button.
  5. Change the Closing Date as necessary.
  6. In the Password section, you may change or remove the password that's currently entered.
  7. Click OK twice.

All of this information and more is available in our guide on how to close your books in QuickBooks Desktop.

That should do it. After following these steps, you'll be all set to enter your 2019 transactions.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. I've got your back and am always happy to help you however I can. Thanks again for dropping by, wishing you all the best!
