Desktop Subscription Cancelled - Now I can't view Archived Data!

I have cancelled my Quickbooks Desktop Subscription to move to QB Online. I would like to be able to view my old data in the desktop version, especially payroll data since that info doesn't transfer to online. 

 

I'm told that since desktop was a subscription, any time I want to look at the old data, I have to reactivate my subscription, look at the data, then cancel my subscription.

 

The alternative is to purchase the non-subscription version of Quickbooks Plus - $299.95 just so I can view my archived data. 

 

I've been paying the subscription for years now, why can't they leave me with way to view my old data? How are others dealing with this problem?

Then consider purchasing a license of Pro 2020 1 user for < $200 thru a partner.
