Dont want to re-upload previously sent portable. How do I tell QB that?

Please help.  I sent a portable file and it cannot be uploaded into my computer.  I want to add some accounts to my original file that the portable came from, but I cannot unless I upload the portable.  I need to tell my QB to not look to upload the portable file.  How do I do that?

hi @ Restoring ,

Portable company file in QuickBooks is QBM and the main one is QBW. You should find and open your QBW file to continue your working.

Hey @Restoring,

You can perform a wild card search to locate and open your QBW file just as @Fiat Lux suggested. Let me guide you how.

When performing a wild card search, you'll need to use the file formats in QuickBooks to get faster results. And note that when you search for these files, you need to include the asterisks. Some of these file formats include:

  • *.qbw - Working Files
  • *.qbb - Back Up Files
  • *.qba - Accountants Copy Files
  • *.qbx - Accountants Transfer Files
  • *.qby - Accountants Change Files

Once you've found the file, you can follow the steps below to open it:

  1. Click on File from the menu bar.
  2. Choose Open or Restore Company.
  3. Select Open a Company File, then click Next.
  4. Select the company file.
  5. Click Open.

Once done, you can now add your accounts. Here's how:

  1. Click on Lists from the menu bar.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. From the Account drop-down, choose New.
  4. Select the account type, then click on Continue.
  5. Enter the necessary information for the account.
  6. Click on Save & Close.

That's it! You're now able to open your file and add your accounts.
