Join nowFor years we have been fighting the following error when trying to run an end of day. Trying a lot of times we will eventually get it to go through then it is fine for a couple days. I have the server computer in Single user mode for both Quickbooks and Financial. Even when I turn of multi user hosting in quickbooks and completely disconnect the computer from the interned we still get this error. There is no way any other user could be accessing the files. I have also turned of all other computers at our company so the Server is the only computer running and will still get this error.
Problem
Quickbooks Desktop Point of Sale could not read customer/vendor information from your Quickbooks company file. This is most likely because another user is accessing or editing the same records in Quickbooks.
Solution
Try the following and then run Financial Exchange agin:
1) Have the other user exit the Quickbooks Financial Software company file or,
2) if running in multi-user mode, switch to single user mode.
Quickbooks Desktop Point of Sale Message: 140203
I appreciate you for sharing detailed information on your concern and the solution you've been trying, @klangloi. I'll make sure to share other troubleshooting instructions to ensure to sort out the error message.
Since you get the error in all of your computers with POS, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to help you fix the error so you can get back to your business right away.
To get started, you'll have to check the Network Speed. Then create a backup then restore to different file backup files in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale before running the verify rebuild tool.
Once done, run Verify Data utility tool. This helps find damaged transactions, lists, or SQL table structures in your company file. However, it can only find the damage it is programmed.
Here's how:
If the issue continues to occur, I suggest performing a clean reinstall for QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale and test in a New Windows User (Windows 10 or Windows 8/7).

Thank you for the input Joesem. This isn't happening on all computers. We only run the end of day from the server computer that hosts the quickbooks and POS files. So network speed isn't an issue as it is all being done on one computer. We have fast internet speeds. I have run the debugger(no issues), update softwares and have even update software on quickbooks, run verify data, rebuild data(no Errors). Same error for our end of day. I have even backed up both softwares and done a fresh install of both and try to run an end of day and still the same issue. We have had issue with this on and off for years. It will work fine for a while with only one or two attempts and end of day will go through. Then all of a sudden we will get this error. Try 20 plus times to get an end of day and error every time. It seems like something is running in the back ground of Quickbooks that is causing this error to happen. The current computer has 16GB of Ram and plenty of processor speed. It the past our server computer had 120GB of RAM and 4 quad for processors and we would till have this same issue every once in a while. I might be able to try the new user for the server computer but my bosses email and everything is on the user and I will have to migrate all that to a new user not connected to his Microsoft email account.
Thanks for following up with the Community, klangloi.
