Entering a negative Sales Receipt

Hi,

I am a new QuickBooks user. I use QuickBooks 2016 The Missing Manual as a reference.  On Chapter 13 Managing Accounts Receivable Section Cash Sales, Subsection Reconciling Excess and Short Cash (p370), there is a discussion about creating a negative cash receipts when there is cash short at the end of the day. But that doesn't seem to be allowed in QB. I followed the description verbatim, but could not succeed. I would like to know if there is anything I might have missed.

Thanks

Entering a negative Sales Receipt

Hi JTCBM,

I appreciate your time and effort in performing the steps based on QuickBooks Manual. For the newer version, we can write off the amount instead of entering it as negative.

Here's an article that will give you more information and detailed steps on how to do the process: Write Off Customer And Vendor Balances.

You might also want to write off unpaid invoices and declare them as bad debt for future reference: Write Off Bad Debt in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please post a reply below if you need further help. I'm always right here to assist.
