Re: error message "cannot remove log file"

Thanks for bringing this matter to my attention, @OTNW.

I’m here to make sure you’re able to restore a backup copy of your company file.

The reasons behind this error message could be:

  • The company file name is consisting of special characters.
  • Restoring a backup over an existing company file.
  • You should create and restore a backup using the same QuickBooks version.
  • Trying to restore a file that isn’t an actual backup file.
  • The file is damaged.

Let’s perform the first solution to this problem by removing special characters from the company file name. Let me show you how:

  1. Locate the company file
  2. Right-click the file name and choose Rename.
  3. Type in a file name that has no special character and press Enter.

If the file name is not the reason for this error, check out the solutions 2-6 in this article to fix the problem: Error: Failed or Error: Restore Failed, when you try to restore a backup.

This information should help you troubleshoot and resolve the error prompt when restoring a backup in QuickBooks.

Post again in the Community and let me know if this works out for you. I’m always here to help. Have a good one!

Re: error message "cannot remove log file"

One thing that I found helpful is to close out of Quickbooks and restart my computer.  After that, I was able to restore the backup without a problem.
