error message

Just upgraded from 2016 Premier to 2019 Premier.  Installation went fine, no problems.  But, now every time I open one of my company files, I get a pop up message: "QB already has a company file open.  If you want to open another company file, close this one first."  I know that I can only open one company file at a time.  Why am I getting this message and how do I stop it?

I'm here to help isolate the error your getting when opening the QuickBooks Company file. 


You'll need to process troubleshooting steps in case there is damage to your company file. Make sure the QuickBooks program itself is working. QuickBooks may be trying to open your previous company, so it's important to isolate if the program or your company file is working.


Let's suppress the QuickBooks Desktop application by following the steps below: 

  1. Press and hold the Ctrl key, then double-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon.
  2. Do not release the Ctrl key until you see the "No Company Open" window, unless QuickBooks freezes or gives you an error.
  3. Select a company file, then choose Open.

Next, you'll need to restart your computer to clear processes and temporary data that may be hogging your system resources, then try to re-open your QuickBooks after restarting.

I have no problems using my QB in either company file.  It opens and operates fine, just keep having the message pop up.
