Error "Windows cannot find C"\program files(x86)\intuit\quick books2017\QBW32pro.exe"

Yesterday I started getting this error when trying to launch QB desktop. So far I have: Tried to run the .exe directly (same error) Run a repair from the CD Uninstalled and reinstalled QB2017 Disabled antivirus None of this worked. I also installed QB on another PC and it worked fine. How do I get it to start working again? I'm on Win10 and the latest version of QB 2017.

Error "Windows cannot find C"\program files(x86)\intuit\quick books2017\QBW32pro.exe"

Thanks for coming to the Community for help, @McQuaide.

I appreciate you performing some troubleshooting steps to fix the error message. Let’s download the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool to resolve any corrupted installation and program files.

Here’s how:

  1. Download the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool.
  2. When prompted, save the file to the local desktop.
  3. Close any programs and run the QBInstall Tool.
  4. Restart the computer to ensure the components are properly updated.

Take a look at this article for more information along with several solutions you can try: Solutions for when QuickBooks stops working.

Once done, open the program. If you continue to get the same result, I recommend uninstalling QuickBooks and use Super Clean Install to completely remove the software from your computer and start fresh.

Before doing so, make sure to close all unnecessary programs running in the background. Simply press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and end all processes such as QBCFMonitorServiceQBDBMgrQBDBMgrNQBPESEVNT08RQBW32, and QBWebConnector.

Check out this article for the detailed steps: Reinstall using a Super Clean Install.

Let me know if you need further assistance. I’m always here to help. Wishing you the best!

Thanks for the reply. I did all of the above, reinstalled and re-entered the license key after clearing the registry, and I still get the same error when trying to launch it. Also, your link to Solutions for when QuickBooks stops working doesn't lead to anywhere.

Error "Windows cannot find C"\program files(x86)\intuit\quick books2017\QBW32pro.exe"

Hi there, @McQuaide!

Let's perform some other troubleshooting steps so we can get rid of the error message you received and get you back to working order.

To start with, let's find and pull up your saved company file first. To do so, you can type one of these two file types so you can locate your file:

  • *.qbw (Working Files)
  • *.qbb (Back-Up Files)

Once you've located your saved company file, you'll have to take note of its folder and location. And then, follow the steps below to open your company file:

  1. Go to File.
  2. Select Open or Restore Company.
  3. Hit Open a company file.
  4. Choose Next.
  5. Find your saved company file by going to its location.
  6. Click Open.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can find a missing company file: Company File is Missing or Cannot be Found.

As always, you can visit our Help Articles page for QuickBooks Desktop if in case you need some tips and related articles for your future tasks.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.
