Hello and welcome to the Community, robyn3.

I'm here with some insight to provide regarding your question.

As a photographer, you may want to consider categorizing a camera and a hard drive as Fixed Assets using Machinery & Equipment as their Detail Type. The steps below will guide you on how to set it up:

  1. Select Accounting in the left navigation menu.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Choose Fixed Assets and Machinery & Equipment respectively from the Account Type and Detail Type drop-down menus.
  4. Name the account, for example, Camera.
  5. Click Save and Close.

For additional insight about this, you can check out this article: How do I set up an asset?

However, please be sure to reach out to an accounting consultant to ensure this is the best suit for your business. With Intuit's Find-A-ProAdvisor site, you can search for certified professionals in proximity to your ZIP code that can discuss options more personal to your business's needs.

That should get you going in the right direction. Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. Thanks again for reaching out, wishing you and your business all the best!
