Filtering searches as I type

Hi,

If I pull up a customer list in QB desktop 2020 and start typing a customer name, the list of customers USED TO start filtering as I typed letters, it no longer does. Now I must type in the entire name and click the search icon. I would like the list to filter as I type. Does anybody know how to make this happen.

Filtering searches as I type

Hello @Maggie21,

At this time, there isn't an integrated way to let the search function to show up the suggestions base on the initials you typed in. You're on the right track in manually clicking the magnifying lens to show suggestions after entering any names of your customers.

Lastly, here's a few articles you can read to help manage your customers and sales transactions: Income and Expenses for QuickBooks Desktop.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, let me know in the comments. I'll be here to lend a hand.

Filtering searches as I type

Hi there, @Maggie21.

In the Customer Center tab, you can enter the first four or five letters of your customer's name and click the magnifying glass so that it will be filtered. You don't need to enter the complete name. I'll show you how to do that.

  1. Go to the Customers menu and click the Customer Center.
  2. In the Customers & Jobs section, click the drop-down to All Customers.
  3. Enter the first four letter of your customer's name and click the Magnifying icon.
  4. There you'll see the filtered names of your customer.

Here's how it looks like.

Filtering searches as I type

Hi,

Thanks for the reply but thats not what I meant by my question, meaning, I thought the search results would filter AS I type without the need to click the magnifying glass icon. So if i just type "m i c", the list below the search box is displaying all results with "m i c" without clicking the magnifying glass so its displaying filtered results in real time as I type. My colleagues gave me the impression this is how it used to work, maybe it now longer functions that way. I thought there may be a setting somewhere to get it to act in this manner.
