How can I download and upload the quickbooks calculation to HMRC so I can make the tax return thanks

Hi marius_052002-ya,

Thanks for joining us here on the Community 👋

You can download up to 24 months of transactions in a few simple clicks by connecting your bank feed to QuickBooks through Open Banking.

Once you've turned on VAT (select 'Taxes' on the left-menu to setup) you'll be able to assign a VAT code to each transaction, which will then automatically pull this through to your VAT return.

If you're registered for MTD, you can then authorise your QuickBooks for MTD submissions - once enabled, you can then select 'Prepare return' from the Taxes screen to preview your submission, and select 'Submit to HMRC' when you've checked the figures are correct.

Get back to us below if you have any further questions on setting this up!

I'm grateful you joined the Community for the first time and posted your first message today, Kim10559. I'm stepping in the thread with some troubleshooting steps to get the Submit to HMRC option and settle your returns.

This behaviour can be affected by the browser's cache. To isolate the issue, I recommend accessing QuickBooks through a private window to narrow down the result. You can use either of these keyboard shortcuts to save you time:

  • Google Chrome: Press CTRL Shift N
  • Safari: Press Command Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Press CTRL Shift P

If it works fine, switch back to your default browser, then clear the cache to refresh. However, if the Submit to HMRC is still missing, you may have to authorise QBO to interact with HMRC by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Taxes page, then Set up MTD.
  2. Tap Authorise now, then Continue.
  3. Sign in with your MTD Government Gateway user ID and password.
  4. Hit Continue, then Give permission.
  5. Once you're connected, select Continue and then Go to Taxes.

Once MTD is enabled, you should notice a Making Tax Digital Enabled badge on your taxes dashboard. From there, you can submit your first MTD VAT return directly to HMRC as soon as it's due.

If you receive error warnings while connecting to MTD, you can use the resources provided from this link to resolve them: Fix MTD issues and errors in QuickBooks Online.
