How do I change SIN number after saved?

Hello ctimmons,

Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community! I hope you've been well since the last time we heard from you and I'm glad to see you're still working with QuickBooks Online. The program's Payroll modules are a great solution for keeping track of your payroll details right in your books, and I'd be happy to show you how to make changes to your employee setup, including the SIN.

The steps you'll take here vary slightly depending on if you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll (formerly Standard Payroll) or Advanced Payroll. I'll go over both just to make sure you have the information you need and am happy to share that in both cases, it's fairly simple.

Change a SIN in QuickBooks Online Payroll

  1. Go to the Payroll tab in the left menu.
  2. Click the employee name.
  3. Click Edit employee.
  4. Select the pencil icon for the What are [employee's] tax withholdings? section.
  5. Edit the Social Insurance Number field.
  6. Click Done to save.
  7. Click Done to save and exit.

Change a SIN in Advanced Payroll

  1. Go to the Payroll tab in the left menu.
  2. Click Edit beside the employee in question.
  3. On the Profile tab, use the Social insurance number field to make the changes you need.
  4. Click Save.

Just follow those steps and you're done. Pretty easy, right? Give that a shot and let me know how it goes or if you have more questions.

If you're using Advanced Payroll, you should have already received an email about important changes coming up with that service. In case you missed that, here's our article about it: QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll to Wagepoint

Have a great rest of your day!
