Exporting the Chart of Accounts (COA) in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to Excel is a simple process. Let me guide you step-by-step.
Before you begin, ensure that the "Enable account numbers" setting is turned on in your QBO settings if you need to include account numbers in your export. Here's how to ensure that:
- Go to the Gear icon in the top-right corner, then select Account and settings.
- Navigate to the Advanced tab.
- Click the Pencil icon in the Chart of accounts section.
- Toggle on the Enable account numbers feature and check the Show account numbers.

- After that, click Save, then Done.
And here are the steps to export the COA to Excel:
- Go back to the Gear icon and select Chart of accounts.
- At the top of the Chart of Accounts page, click the Run report button. This will generate a detailed report of your Chart of Accounts, including account balances.
- On the report page, look for the Export icon (usually a downward arrow or a page with an arrow).
- Click the icon and select Export to Excel from the dropdown menu.

The Excel file will be downloaded to your computer. Locate the file (often in the Downloads folder), and you can then open, review, and save it to your desired location.
