Join nowI have Premier Plus Edition 2021. I set up a new company. I listed it as a manufacturing company. I've loaded the general ledger account and the customers. I now need to load the part numbers of our inventory items. I go to the Item List, click on Item at the bottom of the screen, then click on New in order to load a new part number. The next thing you have to click is TYPE. The choices are:
Service
Non-Inventory Part
Other Charge
Subtotal
Group
Discount
Payment
This is incorrect.
The list should be:
Service
Inventory Part
Inventory Assembly
Non-Inventory Part
Other Charge
Subtotal
Group
Discount
Payment
Sales Tax Item
Sales Tax Group
I have to have the inventory choices, but they're not there. How do I fix this? How do I get the correct group of item types to show up?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I've got your back, @Tiv.
You'll need to turn on the Inventory and purchase orders are active feature. This way, you'll have the option to select the Inventory type when creating an item. Here's how:
Once done, go back to the Item List menu and select New. Then, select Inventory Part from the Type drop-down. I'm adding this article to learn more about managing items in QuickBooks Desktop: Add, edit, and delete items.
You might also want to read this article: Track the products you manufacture. This allows you to combine inventory parts to build and track finished goods.
Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance creating inventory items. Wishing you continued success, @Tiv.
Turn inventory on in preferences.
Pick Edit | Preferences from the QB Menu. Then pick Items & Inventory to turn it on.

And now I have inventory options! :) :)
Thank you!
You'd think that when you choose "manufacturing" for the company industry type, the program would know you need the inventory options automatically. We have to set up bills of materials as well when you manufacture an item.
