You can access the credit card register through the Chart of Accounts, @mike541.
But before we proceed, can you please confirm whether you’re using QuickBooks Online (QBO) or QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT)? The steps differ slightly between the two products, so I’ll provide instructions for both below.
For QBO:
- Click the Gear Icon in the upper-right corner of QuickBooks Online.
- Select Chart of Accounts under the Your Company section.
- In the Chart of Accounts list, locate the credit card account. If you can’t see it right away, use the Search bar at the top to find it quickly by entering the account name.
- On the right side of the credit card account row, click View Register. This will open the register, listing all charges, payments, credits, and balances tied to the credit card.
- Scroll through the register to view all transactions, then click the Filter icon and use the Date field to filter transactions for a specific timeframe, like last month or year-to-date.

For more detailed transaction insights, you can run an account report. Click the arrow next to the credit card account and select Run Report. Once the report is open, customize the date range to view specific charges, payments, or trends for the account.
For QBDT:
- Open QuickBooks Desktop and navigate to the Lists menu.
- Select Chart of Accounts from the drop-down menu.
- Locate your credit card account in the Chart of Accounts list. Highlight it if needed.
- Right-click the credit card account and select Use Register from the menu. Alternatively, you can highlight the account and press Ctrl + R to open the register directly.
- Once the register opens, you’ll see all charges to the account, as well as payments and credits. Then, use the Sort feature or scroll through to find specific past charges.
To view more detailed information, you can run credit card-related reports. Go to the Reports menu and select Company & Financial Reports. From there, choose a report such as Transaction Detail by Account and customize it by filtering for your credit card account to focus on specific transactions and details.
Next, you'll want to keep your records accurate and ensure every charge matches your bank statements, it’s important to reconcile your credit card account regularly. This ensures that all charges, payments, and credits in QuickBooks align with your actual credit card statements. Refer to these articles as guides:
