Adding a service line item percentage for the subtotal of invoices and estimates in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is currently not an option, landingcatering.
You're correct that this option is available in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Please note that QBDT and QBO are two different products with distinct features. As a workaround, you can manually add the service line item to your invoice, then calculate the percentage of the subtotal and include it as a service fee on your invoice or estimate.
To create a service fee item, follow these steps:
- Go to Gear icon at the top then choose Products and services.
- Click on the New button then select Service.
- Enter the name of your service item.
- Select the account you'd use to track the service fees under the Income account drop-down.
- After that, click Save and Close.
Once you've created the service fee item, you can create a new invoice for the fee and send it to your customer.
Here's how:
- In the left menu, click the + New button.
- Select Invoice or Estimate.
- Fill out the necessary information.
- In the Product/service dropdown, choose the fee item you created.
- In the Amount field, enter the amount of the service fee.
- Once done, select Review and send or Save and close.
We understand the importance of adding a service line item percentage for the subtotal on invoices and estimates, similar to what you can do in QBDT. Although this option isn't currently available, we encourage you to submit your feedback to our product developers within your QBO account. This will help our team better understand your concerns and suggestions, ultimately improving your experience with the program.
To send feedback, here's how:
- Go to the Gear icon at the top.
- Select Feedback.
- Enter your comments or product suggestions.
- Then select Next to submit feedback.
