How do you set up VAT for EU only when not registered for VAT in UK

Hello, my company is not registered for VAT in UK (but I am very familiar with UK VAT) but is registered for VAT in EU (Spain). How do I set up QB desktop to enable VAT tracking for EU only in this scenario? Many thanks in anticipation, Regards David

How do you set up VAT for EU only when not registered for VAT in UK

Hi David,

You can set up VAT in QuickBooks Desktop by following the steps below. However, for the tracking difference, I'd recommend reaching out to EU (Spain) revenue for guidance.

Here are the steps:

  1. Click Edit located at the top.
  2. Choose Preferences, then the preferences pop-up window appears.
  3. On the left panel, click VAT.
  4. Click the Company Preferences tab, and click Yes next to Do you charge VAT?.
  5. Click the Add VAT Item button to open a new window.
  6. Enter the VAT information and click OK.

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any other questions. Thanks.

How do you set up VAT for EU only when not registered for VAT in UK

Hi RenjolynC, many thanks for your reply; I think I have succeeded now. It was not so much invoking VAT in QBD as I have a second company in QB that is VAT registered.  I managed to find the deeper levels of the VAT configuration of rates and set these up for EU services and removed the UK elements. There might be some more tweeking necessary but very much appreciated, kind regards David
