How to lock column sizes

I am constantly resizing column widths in QB Desktop. When working with receivers and bills, I can never see more than a few numbers of our PO # and the amount section is more than double the size (amount column shows 20 digits vs PO # shows 6????). When viewing POs, I can never see the job number because the customer name takes up the inch of space given for that box.

I'd like to lock widths on columns to save time. I do not need nearly 3x the space on the amount column vs the customer column. Why on earth would that make sense? I could fit 20 digits in the amount column yet I can't see more than three digits of the project.

This has to be a feature. Thanks.

Hello Ashley65,

Welcome to the Community. It would be my pleasure to lend a hand regarding your concern about the columns when creating transactions QuickBooks Desktop.

The width of the columns will depend on your adjustments the last time you create the transactions. For example, when creating a purchase order and you select the Save & Close option, it'll save and remember your last configuration.

If the problem persists, I recommend running the Verify or Rebuild Data Utility to ensure you'll get rid of any data issues. For the detailed steps, I'm adding the article I recommend on this:

Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

In case all fails, it would be best to reach out to our Support Specialists this time. One of them will be able to perform some additional steps to isolate the issue going on in your end.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Help tab at the top menu bar.
  3. Click QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  4. Click the Contact Us hyperlink.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you need further help with the columns in QuickBooks Desktop. I'm always up to provide assistance. Wishing you all the best.
