How to prepare 1099's with No EIN

Welcome to the Community space, suzanne50.

Let me share some insights regarding the form.

To prepare 1099s within QuickBooks Online, you will need to supply your company name, address, and tax ID/SSN. This is to make sure the information entered is correct and matches what's found on tax notices or letters from the IRS.

In adding a contractor as a vendor, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Contractors.
  2. Click the Add a contractor button.
  3. Enter your contractor’s info, or select the Email this contractor checkbox so they can fill it out.
  4. When you're done, hit Add contractor.

To add a vendor, here's how:

  1. Go to Vendors.
  2. Click the New vendor button.
  3. In the Vendor Information window, add the vendor details.
  4. Put a check mark on the Track payments for 1099 box.
  5. Hit Save.

Once done, you can start tracking their payments. I've got this article for reference: Set up contractors and track them for 1099s in QuickBooks. Once done, you can start filing the 1099 forms.

When you're ready to file your 1099s, please check out the step by step instructions in this link: Create and file 1099s using QuickBooks Online.

I'd also like to share this article to help you with the year-end task: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Online.
