How to print alternate shading on sales order forms

I have 2019 QB premier, I would actually like to have the alternate shading on every other item line, I see it on my invoices but can't seem to find a way on sales orders.  I have tried the printer set up and unchecking/checking the print lines, but I actually want the lines printed so this is working properly.  I am wanting the alternate shading as I am using a blank form.  Thanks, Wendi

Thanks for getting back to us, @Wendi Jo.

BettyJaneB is right. The alternating shaded table rows on printed transactions can only be found in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. This is available on most transactions, the physical inventory worksheet, and item price lists by item and by customer.

Re: How to print alternate shading on sales order forms

Hi, Wendi Jo.

To show those shaded lines on your sales orders, you'll need to make sure that the "Do not print lines around each field" option on your printer setup window is mark checked. Here's how to do it:

  1. Click on File at the top menu.
  2. Select Printer Setup.
  3. In the Form Name drop-down, select Sales Order.
  4. Make sure that the Do not print lines around each field is mark checked.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Choose the Sales Order you want to print.
  7. In the Print One Sales Order window, make sure that Shade alternate table rows and Do not print lines around each field are mark checked.
  8. Then, click Print.

Here's a screenshot for your guide:

Re: How to print alternate shading on sales order forms

After marking it as "Do not print lines around field" and saying ok, then going to print the sales order - I don't have an option for the check box, its not there??  Am I missing a step?

Thanks for keeping me updated about the steps that you've tried, @Wendi Jo.

I've got some clarifications to share regarding the alternate shading on sales order forms in QuickBooks Desktop.

At this time, being able to have the sales orders form to be printed with alternate shading is only available to the Enterprise version of QuickBooks Desktop. However, to print your desired sales form template, you have the option to import a customized template and have it printed on QuickBooks.

Re: How to print alternate shading on sales order forms

Hi, BettyJaneB:  Ok just to make sure I understand you correctly, alternate shading is only available in Enterprise.  As a side note, the alternate shading was on my invoice and now it is not (I have the print outs to show) but in unchecking the lines as directed (in sales order and while I was at it, I did the same thing in invoices) the shading is now gone on my invoices.

So was it just a glitch and I was lucky and now its gone so I'm out of luck?  I just want to make sure I am understanding what you are saying.  Thanks, Wendi
